Dom Tooze Counselling

Compassionate talking therapy in York

Life can be tough, and it can be so much tougher when having to face it alone. Maybe you're experiencing changes or difficulty with work, family, relationships, or something else - any of this might leave you feeling anxious, uncertain, or stuck.Counselling offers space to slow down and explore these challenges with honesty and curiosity. Together, we can explore how you experience things - how you are, and how you show up in relationships - which is often a vital step towards positive change.I aim to offer compassion, challenge, humour, and care, to help you develop your own insight. Growth isn't always easy, but it can lead to greater clarity, resilience, and a more connected life.

About me

My journey into working as a counsellor began after I first experienced counselling as a client.I realised how valuable counselling can be, allowing you to be seen, heard, and accepted as you are. I also realised that, in my various previous working roles in the charity and education sectors, I had been developing the skills to facilitate this for some time.I undertook Level 2 and 3 training with York Learning, and then started my postgraduate diploma in Humanistic Counselling at York St John University, gaining my qualification in March 2025.I have been working with clients during, and since my training, offering counselling from January 2024. In this time I have worked with adults from all walks of life, experiencing a wide range of issues.

As a person, and in my practice, I am particularly conscious of the themes below.

Social JusticeFundamental to my training and my practice is a belief in social justice: in recognising and using privilege to help those without it, and to help marginalised people empower themselves.

ConnectionI believe in the power of connection. Connecting to different parts of oneself, connecting to those around us, and connecting to society as a whole. When we're struggling to do any of these, it can be challenging to live well.

Nature and ClimateI believe in the deep interconnectedness of people, place, and planet. The climate crisis is not just environmental—it’s also personal, social, and emotional. I work to hold space for the grief, anxiety, and hope that can arise in response to ecological breakdown and injustice. I’m committed to practicing in a way that honours sustainability, inclusion, and care for the world we share.
